Murder in New Jersey is
purposeful or knowingly causing the death of someone, or causing
them injury which results in death. The mandatory sentence is 30
years without parole
Murder can also be felony
murder which results when someone is killed during a robbery or
other serious crime. You do not have to be the person who does
the killing, but an accomplice of someone who kills someone.
Aggravated manslaughter is
where someone causes death under circumstances manifesting
extreme indifference to human life, or cause the death of
someone while fleeing the police. There is not much of a
difference between murder and aggravated manslaughter; however,
if you are convicted of aggravated manslaughter you can be sentenced
to between 10 and 30 years, and you are eligible for parole.
Manslaughter is recklessly
causing the death of someone, or killing someone while in the
heat of passion resulting from a reasonable provocation.
Manslaughter is punishable by between 5 and 10 years in prison.
Death by auto is a death caused
by driving recklessly. Typically this is causing the death of
someone while driving drunk.
