CHILD ENDANGERMENT

Child endangerment is neglect or abuse of children. This can be leaving young children alone too long, making them do repeated exercises that cause pain, or leaving them in a locked car in a car seat too long.

One factor is what is the exact nature of the abuse. Customs in other countries don’t always translate here. But they can be a defense. Leaving your child outside in a stroller is customary in some countries, but may result in charges of child endangerment here.

Child endangerment is a serious crime. The penalty can be up to 10 years in prison. And any accusation of child endangerment or abuse involves the Division of Youth and Family Services. They can and do take your children and place them in foster homes.

Don’t give up hope.

Proper investigation by an experienced, well trained criminal defense attorney is essential. Early representation so that we can decide to speak to the police, or not, is essential.
